THE LITERARY LOUNGE
- Included in the STUDIO XRT CONSERVATORY program
- Taught by Christopher R. K. Hildebrand
The Literary Lounge offers our Conservatory students an opportunity to experience the history of performance through the works of the great Playwrights. Every other week, we will explore a new text and the world surrounding it through history, art, religion, literature, etc. Each dramatic reading will be coupled with interdisciplinary texts and media chosen to provide added context. Readings will include works by Aristotle, Freud, Nietzsche, Brecht, Shaw, Artaud, Lessing and others. Students are expected to maintain a working Response Journal throughout the class.
Over the course of the Conservatory, each student will research and write a scholarly article on a playwright, an individual work, a movement, etc. At the conclusion of the Conservatory, each student will deliver a brief lecture on their research to the XRT community. Following the lectures, students will submit their articles to the Literary Manager for comments and review. The top work submitted will be chosen for publication in the XRT’s literary journal, The X Files.
