Education: B.F.A. from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where he studied acting at the Meisner Conservatory, during which time he also studied Commedia dell’Arte in Florence, Italy.  Upon graduating with his BFA, Spencer took classes at the American Comedy Institute in New York under Stephen Rosenfeld as well as with Maggie Flanigan at The Maggie Flanigan Acting Studio.

Professional Experience: While out in Los Angeles, Spencer has had many rich life experiences including teaching, bartending, and attending school at The Groundlings.  Spencer is part of “WildcatsLA (rrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrr!!!!!)”, a writer’s group where he is currently working on a one-act play.  The title hasn’t been fleshed out yet but he knows he wants something ominous.  He has performed stand-up, improv, and sketch comedy around town at various places like The Groundlings, Improv Olympic, Ultimate Improv, and The Comedy Store.  Spencer has many film and theatre credits to his resume.  He is currently working on writing and starring in his own television pilot, Mason Steele - about two county-western singers from Texas that move West to pursue their dreams of making it big in Los Angeles.

What the XRT Means To Me…: I joined the XRT to be a part of a community of self-sustaining artists who get the opportunity to wake up every morning and go to work getting to do what they love.  I have always wanted to support myself financially while working artistically and the XRT gives me the opportunity to do that.  As for the future of XRT I am honored to be one of its founding members and look forward to paving the way for future generations of artists to come!!

Why I Do What I Do…: As an Improv teacher at the XRT I get to teach students how to be spontaneous and exciting in their acting.  I believe that some of our best acting comes out of following our impulses and trusting our instincts.  As for the kind of training I focus on with my students, I like for it to have a strong comedic element to it.  I believe developing a sense of humor enriches them as performers.  Teaching has always been a passion of mine and I am glad to be able to bring that passion to the XRT.  On top of teaching I am also the Location X Director.  Construction has always been a passion of mine and I have had a very fulfilling experience thus far working on the space as far as sandblasting, painting, constructing, designing, and incorporating my skill sets to build up Location X and be a hands on member of this company for years to come.
