Title: Office Manager,  Resident Dramaturg

Education: Shaun-Mathieu Smith received his BFA in Theater Performance at Chapman University in Orange, CA. While there, he also had the fortune to participate in several projects with Chapman University’s School of Film and Television. His training includes Stanislavski, Chekhov, Suzuki, Meisner and Viewpoints.

Professional Experience: Shaun-Mathieu has been performing since the age of fourteen. He has graced the footlights of various stages in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. Some of his favorite theater performances include Masque of the Red Death, The Apollo of Bellac, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Lady’s Not for Burning and Dracula, the Musical?

What the XRT Means To Me…: For awhile now, I’d been looking for a new assemblage of actors that I could grow and evolve with as an artist. The unique blend of talented individuals at XRT is unlike anything else I’ve come across in Southern California. Everyone is so encouraging and supportive of one another’s talents. I feel that I’ve found a great, nourishing atmosphere where I can create and thrive as an actor.

Why I Do What I Do…: Simply put, I act because there is no other profession or means of artistic expression that complete me as a person. I think, as part of the human condition, everyone searches for those things that fulfill and define their existence. Theater, for me, is one of those defining factors. Oscar Wilde may have said it a little more eloquently, though; “I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”

Did You Know? In his spare time, Shaun-Mathieu writes reviews of restaurants and various places of interest. He is also an avid reader with a vast library of novels, mostly of the Supernatural and Horror genres.
