Title: Founder

Position: Executive Director, Associate Artistic Director

Classes Taught: AUDITION WORKSHOP & SOLO PERFORMANCE LAB

Education: Marc received his Masters of Fine Arts at the University of Washington Professional Actor Training Program. As an instructor, Marc has taught actors of all ages, including undergraduates at the University of Washington (under Ms. Hunt) and, more recently, at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Hollywood. Marc’s extensive experience with the physical aspects of theater has fostered a teaching style that seeks to liberate actors’ instruments through movement with an emphasis on relaxation and stillness as a foundation and a strong focus on the elements of action.

Professional Experience: He has been acting for over 20 years, having performed in over 40 plays, including productions at Intiman Theatre, Victory Gardens Theater, The Utah Shakespearean Festival, Williamstown Theatre Festival and many others. In 2001 he received a Joseph Jefferson Citation for his performance in David Mamet’s Sexual Perversity in Chicago. Recent television credits include guest star roles on Bones, NUMB3RS, ER (recurring), NCIS, Medium.

His theatrical background is rooted in the techniques of Konstantin Stanislavsky and Tadashi Suzuki. At UW, he studied with, among other notables, Steve Pearson and Robyn Hunt, both of whom worked with Mr. Suzuki’s Toga company and have spent years synthesizing the teachings of the aforementioned masters. Marc is also an accomplished solo performer, having produced two of his solo shows in Seattle and New York.

What the XRT Means To Me…: I founded the XRT because I wanted to create something wholly unique to the Los Angeles community. En par with the great cultural cities around the world, LA has become an enormous cultural mecca, a celebration of a number of art forms where the ever-growing theatre community always seems to be bubbling just under the surface in the shadow of the Hollywood film community. I felt an urgent need to help create an institution that sought to break through the barriers imposed by the often harsh realities of “the industry” and build a bridge between the art forms that celebrated not only what we see on our screen and stages, but most importantly, to cultivate the process of theatrical training as a vital foundation in the lifelong journey of the artist. I want XRT to be at its root the ultimate theatrical training ground for all its artists, regardless of their experience or expertise, where every artist is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of artists through a variety of disciplines and where the theatrical art form can flourish and remain a vital voice in addressing that which moves us as a society.
