Training Overview
STUDIO XRT
Where student actors become FEARLESS artists!
Studio XRT offers comprehensive actor training in Los Angeles.
Founding Principles:
Studio XRT is committed to training actors to be empowered, self-sustaining artists on a lifelong journey of artistic discovery. We equip our students to move beyond the limitations of audition nightmares and type-casting to tap into their unique creativity. At Studio XRT they gain the tools and the skills to make their own dreams a reality by generating, performing in, and producing their own work. As a Teaching Theatre, students are taught by artists who train together, create together, and continually push the boundaries of their own creative possibilities.
The Technique
The foundation of our technique – The Specific & Improvisational Actor - as developed by Dean of Studio XRT Aaron Ganz, is to help the actor “live truthfully under imaginary circumstances” through the pursuit of objective. We believe that it is through specificity in the Actor’s Personal Crafting Work, that true improvisational life will be inspired in performance. All tools, techniques, and training methods taught at Studio XRT will be focused on helping our actors meet these goals.
Movement
All Movement work taught at Studio XRT will:
• Serve to help the Acting Instrument receive experiences without filter, that release behavior without apology
• Serve to help the Actor discover the physical life of the character in a manner that allows this technical & imaginary work to “take on a life of its own”
• Serve to help the Actor develop & maintain a healthy, flexible & vulnerable physical instrument
Voice
Vocal work taught at Studio XRT will:
• Bring awareness to the Actor’s Vocal Instrument
• Provide the Actor with exercises designed to strengthen & warm-up the Vocal Instrument
• Provide full knowledge and at least basic use of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)
Other
Studio XRT will:
• Offer a myriad of courses - teaching the world’s top disciplines - while remaining committed to discovering the next, great innovative acting tools & techniques.
• Train our actors in acting technique, voice work, movement work, professional conduct, and at least basic knowledge of dramatic history and theory. Our goal is to train the actor to become a contributing and self-sustaining member of the global theatre community.
• Require students to see and critique live performances consisting of various styles of theatre.
• Aim to help our students be at the forefront of the digital theatrical revolution.
• Assign each student a mentor. Mentors will consist of members of the X Repertory Theatre Company and staff.
• Be made up of kind, passionate teachers who excel at their craft and hunger to stretch their own artistic boundaries. Our staff will always provide a supportive environment where students are encouraged to take risks in service of finding their own unique, artistic voice.
