Resident Artists

The X Repertory Theatre Company strives to maintain a company built on artistic and professional excellence.  Resident Artists are members of the company that have demonstrated the highest levels of artistic accomplishment and professional conduct within the XRTC community.  In order to be granted status as a Resident Artist within the XRTC, an individual is expected to fulfill the following requirements:

  • Each Resident Artist must have earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from an accredited institution, certificate(s) of completion from the Studio XRT Conservatory, or equivalent training,
  • Each Resident Artist must have professional work history with at least three (3) established regional theatres (i.e. LORT A or B theatres), summer stock theatres, international festivals, etc.
  • Each Resident Artist must have an established record of consistent artistic and professional excellence in X Repertory Theatre and/or Studio XRT productions,
  • Each Resident Artist must show an active willingness to exceed the norm in promoting and facilitating XRTC activities,
  • Each Resident Artist is required to teach within Studio XRT for a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours per calendar year.
  • To be considered for Resident Artistship, a Company Member must be nominated for said status by the Founder of the X Repertory Theatre Company,
  • To be conferred the status of Resident Artist, a Company Member must be approved by a two-thirds majority (2/3) of current Resident Artists.

Resident Artists of the X Repertory Company are afforded several advantages beyond the benefits of general Company membership.  The following are those benefits specific to Resident Artists:

  • Each Resident Artist may chose to participate in any exclusive XREP Master Class,
  • Each Resident Artist is allotted priority consideration in Mainstage season casting, directing, designing, etc.
  • Each Resident Artist shall be granted reserved dressing room space at Location X.
  • Each Resident Artist is granted priority consideration in submitting for X REPresents productions.

Artistic Leadership Committees

All Resident Artists of the X Repertory Theatre Company are integral to the overall growth of the organization.  Artistic Leadership Committees are a vital part of XRTC operations and require professional and committed oversight. The following committees are exclusively staffed by XRTC Resident Artists:

Membership Committee - This committee is tasked with auditioning and approving new members to the XRTC and is composed of the Artistic Director, the Company Advocate/Manager and three Resident Artists.  The three (3) Resident Artist positions are rotated on an annual basis.

New Play Committee - This committee is charged with reviewing New Play submissions in consideration for the New Play Workshop and recommending the production of said work for future seasons.  The New Play Committee is composed of the Artistic Director, the Literary Manager and three Resident Artists.  The three (3) Resident Artists are rotated on an annual basis.

X REPresents Committee - This committee oversees the selection of X REPresents productions submitted by XRTC Company Members.  Two (2) Resident Artists are rotated on an annual basis within the committee.

Cabaret X Committee - This committee oversees Cabaret X activities including, but not limited to, the monthly Cabaret, S/XRT Cabarets and Gallery X.  One (1) Resident Artist will oversee the committee on an annual basis.
