Faculty Application Guidelines

Consideration for joining the Faculty of Studio XRT will be based on a two part interview process:

1) Teaching Candidates Submit a Class Arc (Syllabus) - begin by asking yourself what you uniquely have to offer student actors. Too many times schools try to stuff a teaching talent into predetermined boxes (i.e. Viewpoints, Improv, etc…) instead of developing the class around the teacher’s unique passions and talents. At Studio XRT we are always looking to unleash the full capabilities of your teaching talent. Class arcs are road maps that show how the goals for the class can be met with the time allotted.

The class arc should clearly spell out:

• where you want to take the students in their craft (the finish line of your class)

• a class-by-class breakdown of how you propose getting there. This breakdown must include a theme for each class, and at least a sampling of the exercises you plan on working with each class.

* Teachers are encouraged to think boldly and to celebrate their own unique voice. The guidelines above are not meant to squelch creativity and classroom improvisation, in fact, it is the belief of Studio XRT that these guidelines will inspire it. Having a specific map of how a class should manifest allows the teacher freedom to incorporate new exercises and ideas as they arrive in the work. In the course of teaching these classes, Studio XRT expects, and will be looking for, each teacher’s class arc to be updated regularly.

2) Faculty Workshop Audition - Once we settle on a class arc that captures your passion & unique skill set, select instructors will be invited to spend 20 min. working with students of varying skill levels, displaying elements of their teaching style. Teachers are encouraged to run two or three exercises that speak to what they have to offer and not worry about showing everything they can do.

* We are looking for the way you interact with students and your style of teaching. The ability to inspire & empower our developing artists is fundamental to being a faculty member at Studio XRT. Remember, we want teachers who are unafraid to grow their craft -we celebrate potential - and as a Teaching Theatre, the expectation is that our instructors are constantly working to clarify and improve on their own craft of teaching.
